The BMW Motorrad India launched their new cruiser bike R 18 on Saturday in the Indian market. BMW R 18 starts from ₹ 18.90 lakh (Ex-Showroom in Delhi). The R 18 was launched in two variants - R 18 (standard), which is a base model, and R 18 (First Edition), which price is a little higher at ₹ 21.90 lakh ( Ex-Showroom in Delhi). The BMW R 18 bookings have been started, and we can order through the BMW Motorrad dealer network as a complete built-up-unit (CBU).
The BMW R 18 beauty Highlights:-
This new cruiser, R 18, maintains BMW's iconic and historical design of cruiser. The Blackstorm metallic shade gives an attractive look. The R 18 has a big rounded headlamp, which looks very aggressive. It has a sandy looking flowing waterdrop shaped tank. It has a Spock wheel in front only. R 18 has a "1800cc" badging on the engine cover and engine cover made with milled aluminum. The chrome elements in the design are enhancing the modern-classic beauty of R 18. The R 18 has a fully chromed long Exhaust. The R 18 looks fat and wild.
What's Unique in R 18 First Edition:-
The R 18 First Edition was having the double striping chrome design. This R 18 Edition also has a seat badge, some copper screws, First Edition Badging on the Engine cover, and some copper elements in an emblem resting on the tank. This BMW R 18 Edition will also feature hill-start assist, Heated grips, and cornering headlights.
About Powertrain of BMW R 18:-
The BMW Motorrad's recently Developed Air/Oil cooled two-cylinder four-stroke boxer engine with two chain-driven camshafts above the drive shaft gives power to this BMW cruiser R 18. The BMW says It is the biggest boxer engine in history. This engine has a capacity of 1,802 cc with a 107.8 mm Bore and 100 mm stroke, with 91 bhp of maximum power at 4,750 rpm and maximum torque of 158 Nm at 3,000 rpm. This engine is compiled with a constant-mesh 6-speed transmission, and as per BMW, a single-disc dry clutch transmits torque to the transmission. The engine is transferring power to the rear wheel through an exposed drive shaft, inspired by old BMW Cruisers. The BMW claims that the R 18 can reach 0 to 100 Kmph in just 4.8 seconds and the maximum speed it can go is 180 Kmph.
About the brakes and suspension of BMW R 18:-
The R 18 is a sturdy cruiser bike, so it has to contain Responsive brakes and suspension system. The R 18 has a telescopic fork suspension in front and a steel swinging fork with central shock strut in the rear. R 18 is equipped with a 300 mm diameter twin-disc to stop the bike, and four-piston fixed Caliper brake in Front-wheel and 300 mm single diameter disc, four-piston static caliper brake in the Rear wheel. The R 18 also has a BMW's integral ABS technology.
Modern Technology Features in BMW R 18:-
The BMW R 18 has three ride modes- Rain, Roll, and Rock. These modes are provided to ride R 18 in any road conditions- Rain mode is used for the ride on a wet road, Roll mode for the ride on Regular road, and Rock mode for the ride in offroad. The R 18 also has other features such as switchable Automatic stability control, Dynamic engine brake control, Hill-start assists, and a Keyless ride system, so unnecessary to carry a key.
This BMW Motorrad's cruiser R 18 competes with Triumph Rocket 3R and Harley Davidson Fat Boy in the Indian market.
